THE BEGINNING OF TIME
We tried to imagine how one would have experienced the beginning of time. I visualized the origins of light as a moment where no differenciation existed between time and space. Here, space stirred slowly, struggling to emerge before the start of time and the Big Bang.

TIME X LIGHT X FUTURE
The theme of Citizen’s installation at BASELWORLD 2013, ‘Frozen Time’, began with the though that ‘Time is Light, Light is Time’. In 2014, we evolved this concept to create an installation that represents ‘The beginning of time is the beginning of light’. CITIZEN’s 2014 flagship model, Eco-
Drive SATELLITE WAVE F100 is powered by light and captures time signals sent from satellites orbiting in space at the world’s fastest* signal reception speed of three seconds. Our new theme this year, ‘Compressed Time’, was inspired by the vision of a future where compressed light compresses technological innovation and make it instantaneous.

COMPRESSED TIME
‘Compressed Time’ is the theme of Citizen’s installation at BaselWorld 2014. We used main plates – the metal part taht forms the base of a watch and supports all the power for driving the watch – to create a space that expresses the moment when time began. The impressive exhibit space features 33 771 main platessuspended from the ceiling on 4 811 wires. The awe-inspiring experience of the installation space is enhanced by a symphony of light created through the elaborate calculation and positioning od each individual main plate. The combination of wires and main plates suggests the iniqueness of CITIZEN – a company that has devoted countless years to watch making. The CITIZEN flagship model ‘Eco-Drive SATELLITE WAVE F100’ will be displayed at the center of the installation to express the concept of ‘Compressed Time’. By feeling time and light as found nowhere else, we hope you will feel the unknown possibilities of light and time that mankind has yet to experience.
