“Dangerous Liaisons”, a play at the Harbiye Muhsin Ertuğrul Sahnesi, the biggest theater in Istanbul, that had its premiere in the beginning of october, needed a set design. For that they assigned Numen/For Use, located in Wien. Following the subjects of the play, the concept is based upon the metaphor of the mirror. Not only in the sense of narcissism, but also as the illustration of mirrored personalities and destinies of the protagonists.

Five vertical mirror panels are set in two rows, three in the front row, and two in the back, which creates a depth of the scene. Two projection screens are defining the rear side of the triangular ground-plan of the set, thus opening the space for the rear projections. The rotations of mirrors result in various openings revealing the projections of Baroque images. During the rotation of the panels the abstract reality of the material set and the virtual spaces of narrative projections imbue in ghostly Rococo of Laclos. The rotation also enables various space divisions while the mirrors dissolve the space and the projections featuring images of a baroque palace. The result is the multiplication and virtualization of baroque imagery set by the costumes and the projections. The set is best seen in the videos and pictures attached to this article.
